Transitioning from one church to another can feel like an emotional minefield, can’t it? In some cases, people we loved and thought would be in our lives forever seem to vanish. Suddenly, we’re unfriended on social media, ignored in messages, and spoken about in ways we’d never expected. It’s painful—almost like we’re strangers or, worse, like we’ve become enemies.

But I believe God allows these transitions to draw us closer to Him, especially when we feel the hurt of separation. People’s reactions may reflect their own pain, confusion, or misunderstanding of our journey. And while it’s tempting to feel resentment or to try to explain ourselves to everyone, the truth is, God knows our hearts and our motives. He knows when we have done everything we could to leave graciously, to preserve peace, and to remain humble.

Romans 12:18 reminds us, “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” When people unfollow or disconnect, it may reveal that the relationship was more about what they could receive from us—whether influence, position, or even just to look good to others. When they feel they can no longer benefit, they may feel no need to be friendly. As hurtful as this is, the insight frees us. We can rest, knowing our value isn’t tied to what we can offer others but to God’s unchanging love. With open hearts, we move forward in peace, knowing that God walks with us even as some relationships fall away.

Though some connections may fade, God brings new ones rooted in His love and grounded in genuine care. In the process, He shapes us to be more like Christ, calling us to trust Him deeply and to keep our hearts open and humble. Remember, He sees every tear and knows every hurt, and He will bring healing in His perfect time.

As we step forward, may we hold onto His promise in Isaiah 43:19: “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Even when it feels like a desert season, God is at work, bringing new life and hope. Let’s trust Him to guide us through, knowing He has beautiful plans ahead.
