Still Speaking Truth, Still Walking Humbly
Hi, fellow ministry wives š¤
I’m leaving this here for posterity, with a cup of coffee in hand and my Bible open.
Not long ago, my husband was called into the office to explain a Bible verse I shared on my personal Facebook page. I was simply making my way through the book of Proverbs. Rich, wise, practical, and sometimes a little too honest. Proverbs has a way of doing that. It doesn’t whisper. It teaches, it trains, and every now and then, it lovingly steps on our toes.
So let me be clear, gently and calmly.
I am not a passive aggressive person. If something needs to be said, I will say it to you, not about you. Not rudely. Not harshly. Not with an agenda tucked behind a verse. I do not write Scripture aiming it at someone like a dart. I do not post with a name in mind. That simply is not my heart.
I write what the Lord places on my heart.
If I am reading Scripture and feel convicted, I share it. God’s Word does not exist for decoration. It exists for transformation. Ministry wives know this well. We do not just teach the Word. We live under it.
This was the verse and my reflection:
“Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.”
Proverbs 16:18
When someone belittles others to feel important, it reveals more about their own heart than about the person they are criticizing. True greatness is not found in shaming others. It is found in serving with humility. š Have a wonderful day, my friends.
That verse does not accuse. It instructs.
It does not shame. It warns.
Scripture echoes this truth again and again.
“God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
James 4:6
Jesus Himself said,
“Whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant.”
Matthew 20:26
And if I am honest, because ministry wives are nothing if not honest, humility is not always our default. Pride sneaks in quietly. Sometimes it wears the mask of defending truth or protecting the ministry. Scripture gently reminds us,
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves.”
Philippians 2:3
Ouch. And amen.
As ministry wives, we live under a microscope we never signed up for. Our words are examined. Our posts are analyzed. Our silence is questioned. Our obedience is sometimes misunderstood. And yet, we are still called to walk humbly with our God, even when it is inconvenient or uncomfortable.
“He has told you, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requires of you: to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.”
Micah 6:8 CSB
So we keep reading.
We keep sharing.
We keep obeying.
Not to prove a point.
Not to defend ourselves.
But to stay faithful.
And maybe, just maybe, we remember that Proverbs was not written to make us feel superior, but to make us wise.
Have a wonderful day, my friends š
Still faithful. Still learning. Still loved.
